What is cybersecurity in your opinion?
The world of cybersecurity
A comprehensive approach…
«For me, cybersecurity is a profession in which you need to have…” technical knowledge while fully understanding the progress of science. » – Yousra
«In my opinion, cybersecurity It's about warning and preventing potential dangers, and also identifying and fixing vulnerabilities in a computer system. Cybersecurity is a very broad field, but in my area of expertise (Cyber Threat Intelligence), cybersecurity translates in particular into... threat and risk detection for businesses They are not immediately aware of this, either technically or factually. This area affects us all and should interest us all.» – Loëiza
«"For me, cybersecurity is about..."’to have understood how an information system could be threatened, and then to implement measures to prevent threats from escalating into incidents. The goal of a cybersecurity firm is to thoroughly understand its client company in order to better protect its IT system.» – Lorraine
«For me, cybersecurity isn’t just the technical side. It also touches on economic intelligence, defense, linguistics…” It's a cross-cutting field! Many areas of expertise are applicable to cybersecurity.» – Eliska
Security…
«"Overall, cybersecurity is the field of activity that allows for limit the risks associated with information technology. On a more personal note, it's the field that allows me to experience all areas of computer science in a practical way.» – Pauline
«"From my point of view, cybersecurity is defined as the information systems security, that is to say, everything related to the IT of a company. »– Priscilla
«"It consists of to protect a set of tangible or intangible assets (computers, servers, digital networks, and personal data) against malicious attacks.» – Nora
«"Cybersecurity affects the Cyber space, virtual or everyday life. It is a defense system whether it already exists or is yet to be created, and whether it will allow us to protect our data.» – Charlotte
«"It's also the safety of individuals and businesses whose information is found online. "Today everything is digitalized, so cybersecurity affects all individuals and their information."» – Clotilde
With tools, processes…
« It is a set of tools and processes that protect both people and computer data in a cyber environment… » – Gaëlle
«"It is the sum total of the means available to human beings to to protect information (data), and therefore humans themselves. This obviously involves protecting the machine.» – Elisée
Essential expertise…
«"For me, cybersecurity is the basis of a company's strategy to counter or detect a threat where her level of exposure can be very high. This protection is achieved through our tools, and I'm glad to have some basic technical knowledge to work calmly and be productive.» – Konul
«"Cybersecurity is simply the security of the 'cyber' space, that is, the dimension defined by computers and networks. It is a space without real borders where nations, groups of malicious or dishonest individuals clash. Cybersecurity involves protecting oneself from these people on the one hand, and on the other hand from natural events that could have serious consequences for information security (earthquakes on a data center or at a company headquarters, etc.). In short, cybersecurity is about ensuring the survival of the company in the face of threats to its information system.» – Kate
«"Given my training and expertise, cybersecurity is an essential element for the development of digital technology and the web in the broadest sense. We couldn't develop our businesses around website creation, web applications, and the development of social networks and online platforms if cybersecurity didn't secure our communications and new means of expression. This already affects a large majority of professionals and individuals.» – Nadia
«"Cybersecurity is a necessary function, which is becoming indispensable. Today, cybersecurity is an entire aspect of corporate security, fully complementary to other functions (physical security, etc.).» – Agathe
For the future…
« In my opinion, cybersecurity is a rapidly growing field that offers opportunities for passionate individuals. The insecurity I experience in my daily life has driven me to work in this sector. Securing one's data should be a goal to prevent criminals from exploiting the internet's expansion to hack our sensitive information.» – Manon
«"Cybersecurity, in its broadest sense, is the security of information systems, a real challenge for tomorrow, whether personal or more global. Cybersecurity primarily concerns professional and personal data. It aims to optimize their security.. » – Laurence
Since cybersecurity is still a very male-dominated field (111,300 women in France), what would you say/advise to a woman who wants to enter the field?
Women & Cybersecurity
Passion.
« Information technology is a profession of passion, And I think any woman who wants to get into it will instinctively follow that path and is certainly very comfortable in it. I was a veterinary assistant before, and few men did this fascinating job, and I don't think it was specifically out of apprehension about the job's femininity, but simply because the profession didn't appeal to them or they didn't feel capable of doing it. Motivation is personal; the only thing I'll say is what I told myself during my career change. «"Get moving if you want to succeed and give it your all."». » – Elisée
«"Just like everywhere else, when you're scared, you just have to jump, and you deal with what's left to deal with! More seriously, it's a complex question, the best answer is above all that it she shouldn't doubt herself, "And that the path will surely be more complex than for a man because she will always have more to prove, as in any predominantly male field. But the door has already been opened; now we need people like her to keep it wide open."» – Kate
Evidence.
« In 2030, 80% of the jobs offered will be related to digital technology. Furthermore, the field is so vast that, in my opinion, it's very difficult not to find what you're looking for.» – Pauline
«"I'll tell them that if the desire is there, half the battle is won. And that our charming male colleagues are a valuable source of support in overcoming difficulties."» – Laurence
«"We must never forget that women can bring exactly the same things to cybersecurity as men: skills, knowledge, passion for the profession..."» – Eliska
«"For someone who isn't 'technical' like me and is interested in this field, I would tend to tell them to to proceed without any hesitation or preconceptions. "It's a sector and a field that's no more inaccessible than any other."» – Clotilde
«"I would say that if you're interested in a subject (in this case, cybersecurity), you should go for it! Generally speaking, no field is meant to be masculine or feminine."» – Loëiza
Adventure.
«"Whether for technical and operational roles, for essential cross-functional roles within companies, or for services more closely related to international relations and competitive intelligence, cybersecurity is a field that offers tremendous career opportunities. Furthermore, it is an exciting area of expertise which allows us to stay informed and ahead of the curve on many cybersecurity-related topics. Beyond the field's inherent male dominance, I believe that an implicit or explicit interest in cybersecurity is the foundation of successful careers, regardless of gender, and that these women should primarily pursue their passions.. The fact that Our teams are primarily composed of passionate individuals. makes our daily lives more than pleasant.» – Nadia
« Women don't systematically enter the world of cybersecurity because stereotypes die hard, I think that’We need to break down these stereotypes by integrating more women into the IT field (recruitment fairs, mixed-gender debates, etc.). We all know that mixed teams function better, and it's been proven.. Working in the cybersecurity field is first and foremost a passion; this world is open to both passionate men and women. The complementary skills of men and women will propel the cybersecurity field toward new horizons. As a woman, I confirm that It's the only field that has given me so much, both personally and professionally. And I wouldn't change it for the world!» – Gaëlle
« Digital technology is the present and the future! Given the current economic climate, this is definitely not a sector to be overlooked. Cybersecurity affects a large number of internet users in general, and that's where it gets interesting. Since I've been working here, I've had the opportunity to meet dynamic and brilliant collaborators who made me aware of the consequences of a cyberattack and informed me about all the latest technologies. Today, I have better reflexes to strengthen the protection of my personal data.» – Nora
Dynamism.
« That It's an exciting and truly dynamic field that's short-staffed, so don't hesitate to come! The range of possible careers is broader than one might think and offers opportunities to a variety of profiles. Furthermore, on a personal note, I must admit that so far I have never had any negative experiences related to being a woman in this field.» – Lorraine
«This trend is obviously bound to change. Traditionally, women haven't been encouraged to pursue careers in engineering and IT, although there are exceptions. This is evolving; new professions are being created, and excellent opportunities and career paths are being built around cybersecurity.”, Women need to take ownership of this issue just as much as men.. » – Agathe
